I could not wish for a more cooperative subject. The sun was setting, it would soon be the end of the photos for the day. I had the right lens, the right subject and the swan almost knowingly turned just enough as though it was posing. Next to horses I think that swans are probably the most beautiful creatures on earth. There are some things that I like to photograph a lot, because they are always beautiful. Take these fall flowers for instance. They grow spontaneously along the nature trail near our home. The only thing that bothers me is that the crew that keeps the trail edges “tidy” always cut them down. Apex, NC. Sept 2007

Welcome to the new Nature Blog. I call it Natural Selections because they are nature photos and it was only natural to select them from the thousands of photographs I have taken in nature.
The Mimosa is actually a tree that spreads out and makes lots of nice shade. In the summer it produces these beautiful pink flowers that remind me of optical fibers. Apex, NC June 2008.
